Residency Programme
The small medieval town of Montmorillon, where Casa Julfa is located holds the title as Cité de l’Écrit, city of writing for nearly 800 years it has been a place where books have been written, published and printed.
Our self-directed writers & thinkers residencies are for anyone seeking the time and space to recuperate or work independently on their own projects whether or not they identify as a writer. You may use the time to create, to plan, to research, to reflect or to rest, others have simply approached their time as a holiday. We offer stays of either one or two weeks.
Former writers in residence include The New Yorker and Random House published author Taymour Soomro , Poets; Andriniki Mattis and Hasti (as part of our 2025 residency with Anomot press) as well as National book award finalist writer and Artist Maureen O'Shaughnessy

There is a large local food market every wednesday & a small one on Saturdays all year round.

The Casa is surrounded by countryside for taking walks, including chemin de Saint Jacques de Compostelle.
Writers are housed in our Luna apartment (see the La Casa section for more details)
Those who join us also have exclusive use of The writers room, a small but beautifully formed nook not the middle of the house filled with light. There is a desk that looks out onto the village church and quiet street below.
It’s a perfect space for reading, writing or snoozing in the sun. Please note that if you require the use of a studio you should book on the Makers and Thinkers residency.
Residencies run from Tuesday to Tuesday. The cost of residency is 795 euro for one week and 1295 for two weeks.
Once you have selected your dates and made the payment we will contact you with our bank details so that so can pay the rest in monthly instalments.
Please note that the full balance must be cleared 4 months before your arrival.
Prices include:
- Accommodation in one of our large self-catered Luna studio apartment and exclusive use of the Writers room.
Food/ Meals are not included, but there are numerous local restaurants, shops and markets and you have use of your own kitchenette included.

Accompanying guests are permitted for a cots of €295 p/w (sharing the same bedroom in either two singles or one double bed)
