a long weekend of wild clay and ancestral fire

Join us for an in-depth exploration of wild clay and wood-firing which explores ancestral methods not just as a way of creating work, but as a tool for creative transformation and personal connection to a more natural, ancient way of making and thinking.
In practical terms, those joining us, will learn :
-how to search for wild clay and learn how to process it
-how to work with traditional clay techniques to create pieces that withstand the less-controllable wood-firing process.
-the basics of wood firing, along with ancestral decoration techniques
Participants will leave with their own set of test-tiles and work created from clay they have collected themselves and will also receive our specially created wood-firing and wild clay guidebooks, as well as a pre-arrival workbook and a beautiful guide to our daily practice throughout the workshop.
This workshop is particularly suited those who are looking to:
-develop new skills around ancestral ways of working with clay, and integrate them into their practice.
-synthesize their existing theoretical and practical research to allow new ways of making and thinking to emerge
-grow their global artistic network, by working alongside a group of international artists´ and researchers with a similar mindset and intentions.
- Receive mentoring from a specialist in ancestral clay practice .
Guided by traditional techniques and local materials we will explore and approach to ceramics that will help you connect with the natural world and your own heritage.
Participation fee - 1295 euros which includes:
-All materials tools and equipment and instruction
- Homemade evening vegetarian meals using local organic produce
-Shared accommodation at Casa Julfa in either Sol or Estrella Apartments. You will have you your own bedroom (unless sharing with a friend) each apartment has its own kitchen and bathroom which you will share with a maximum of one other )
-Limited to a maximum of 4 participants
